V.L.V. (NYC)// Spring 2011 Trend Alert: Flatforms

“Flatforms also have a reminiscent hint of the wooden “geta” shoes worn by Geisha’s and similar in type to the raised flats worn by Arabian harem girls.”

What’s a flatform you ask? Quite simply ballet flats mashed up with a platform hence flatform. Although this style has to be absolutely brilliant in terms of ease, comfort and look it’s surely nothing new in design-think a more stylish Jesus sandal. No seriously...if fashion sense were high on the biblical elite radar then these would be all the rage. In probability ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians along with other ancient cultures had similar staples in their wardrobe. It’s all a question of returning back to basics and I for one am glad because this shoe style has always been one of my faves. Flatforms also have a reminiscent hint of the wooden “geta” shoes worn by Geisha’s and similar in type to the raised flats worn by Arabian harem girls. So forget all the dainty feminine frilly shoes for this spring because models have been stomping &  clogging down the runways sporting these ultra fun flat platforms. As a matter of fact the hottest spring/summer shoe trends are wooden heels with lots of chunk and height thanks to that seventies revival look to match. A great trend-don’t you think? This look is not only comfortable or a welcomed break from otherwise sky high stiletto heels of late but also a shoe anyone can pull off with simplicity as well as being  easily paired with skirts, jeans, trousers, shorts or just about anything else. Grab yourself a pair and walk in fashionable ease this spring.  Any opinions?  Stay beautiful! XOXO

I made a polyvore set after being inspired by your flat form post. Will post later in the week. It has greek statutes and women in kimonos... And than I saw some awesome pillows with greek borders... It is too easy for me to get side tracked!
